How do you use acad with the schematic blocks?
I can’t get anything to snap to the wire connection points. What tool am I suppose to use for that to work?

    Thanks

    Naresh,

I tried the Auto Cad version of the schematics and it doesn’t seem like you can add just line, it has to connect between two connection points. Can you guys add the functionality to the blocks so you can just add a line that snaps to the connection points instead, with the capability to just type in a description. We have found that doing it this way is such much easier and and a lot less change of connection mistakes for the techs then following endless lines that can get a lot more difficult, especially on bigger jobs. It also saves a tremendous amount of time doing it this way in the schematic creation process.

We do it this way in Visio and would really like that capability in acad.

Schematics is hard code and it does not allow to snap/connect AutoCAD entities to D-Tools’ Schematic Blocks.

    Victor,

I understand that the schematic blocks are not actually real blocks and will miss functionality.
The wire symbol that makes up the connections are poly lines according to acad.

This is what I am wondering: Can you guys create a leader with the same snap functionality as the wire symbol you just created? One that doesn’t curve if you pick it up in one of the ends but stays straight the whole time.
I would think that that would be a really simple thing for your cad person since the wire symbol is probably more complex.

Otherwise can I pay to have that developted?
The amount of time we save by not draw lines between connection points is really significant,
and I really want to move all our drawing development to acad, but this functionality is crucial for us to be able to do that.

    Please let me know.

I am not clear on what MrDigitronic is asking for. I imagine that we can create a process where a standard line can connect the schematic shapes but I think that we would lose all the important what is connected to what information.

Sorry, still not clear on what you are asking for. If you do not draw a complete line between connection points on the schematics the connection reports will not work. I understand it would be easier to only draw a single line without connecting it but then how do you know what is connected to what?

That said I am in the process of specifying a new schematic interface for SI 2014. I can see a valid way to connect wires without actually connecting them by using a special wire shape/block that asks what it is on the other end when one end is connected. It would poll the drawing and present the user with the available connections from components on one or more drawing pages. This would make the connection in the database and add the text to the wire shape/block. That would also work as an off page reference.

Interesting, I am glad I jumped in here. Thanks for sticking with this topic.

I think we should be able to create a alternative wire shape/block that does not have a bend in it. It would not track connections in the database and you would have to manually add any text to the wire. Would that help for the time being. Vic, can you comment on this?

    HeadTool,

I spoke with Fredrik and based on his diagram and comments, he needs a dynamic block Leader (such as finish wire with 1 single line). He is not interested in tracking connections. So I develop a dynamic block for him and hand it over via email.

If anyone else is interest in trying this dynamic Leader please send me a private msg with your email.
